Pleasant Plains H.S. Gym Addition

Pleasant Plains, Illinois

R.D. Lawrence completed construction of Pleasant Plains High School’s new performance gym in September 2021. The 36,000-square-foot gym includes a weight room, two locker rooms, indoor track and batting cages, competition size gym, entry lobby and concession stand.

Illinois Governor's Mansion

R.D. Lawrence was contracted in May 2017 by the Illinois Executive Mansion Association to completely renovate the Illinois Governor’s Mansion, the third oldest state governor’s residence in the United States (constructed in 1855). The renovation focused on improving the visitor experience, structural repairs, and construction updates which included rooms dedicated to historic events, full ADA accessibility, a new visitor center and dedicated space for art exhibitions. The People’s House reopened to the public on July 14, 2018.

Illinois Capitol Senate Hearing Room 212

401 S. 2nd St. in Springfield, Illinois

Formerly the Illinois Supreme Court Chamber, R.D. Lawrence was contracted to restore Illinois Capitol Senate Hearing Room 212, modeled after the Doge’s palace in Venice, to its original splendor. The $1.7 million renovation included some demolition work, ADA improvements, plaster repair and installation of new door hardware, mill work, wallpaper and flooring.

 

Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport

1200 Capital Airport Dr. in Springfield, Illinois

Completed by R.D. Lawrence in 2021, the $10 million airport improvement project included redesign of the parking lot and a 7,000-square-foot terminal expansion with new TSA passenger screening check point. A replica of the Abraham Lincoln statue at Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C., along with a plaque featuring President Lincoln’s second inaugural address, greets terminal visitors.

Lincoln Station

101 North Chicago Street in Lincoln, Illinois

In 1911, the Chicago and Alton Railroad line constructed a brick Spanish Mission-style depot building in the new town of Lincoln, Illinois, named after the train line’s lawyer and future U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. In 2017, R.D. Lawrence renovated the historic passenger rail depot, owned by Amtrak, with a focus on maintaining the building’s long history and preserving its artifacts. The remodeled facility showcases restored windows, doors and the original ticket counter with a scale once used to weigh luggage. The renovation was named Project of the Year by the Illinois chapter of the American Public Works Association.

Illinois State Police Memorial Park

615 E. Lawrence St. in Springfield, Illinois

Located in a 1.5-acre park adjacent to the Illinois State Police Central Headquarters, the Illinois State Police Memorial Park honors the lives and memories of 72 officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. The park includes bronze sculptures, granite memorials, landscaping and a water feature. R.D. Lawrence served as the general contractor on the project, which was officially dedicated on Oct. 2, 2018.

Illinois State Fair Coliseum

Originally constructed in 1901, the Coliseum is a 60,000-square-foot, three-story enclosed oval-shape amphitheater housing a show ring for horses and other events. After being condemned in 2016, R.D. Lawrence served as the general contractor on a $12.7 million project to restore the historic building for the 2019 Illinois State Fair. Decayed wooden beams were replaced and the entire structure was reinforced with steel. Improvements included the addition of LED lighting and energy efficient windows — all while maintaining the building’s historic architecture.

Old State Capitol ​

1 Old State Capitol Plaza in Springfield, Illinois

R.D. Lawrence completed an extensive rebuild of the former capitol building’s historic dome. The project included installation of new roofing, plaster repair and replacement of rotten framing. Built in the Greek Revival style in 1837-1840, today the building continues to be used for ceremonial functions and was historically the site of candidacy announcements by Abraham Lincoln in 1858 and Barack Obama in 2007.

Bicentennial Plaza​

Downtown Springfield, Illinois​

Bicentennial Plaza is the result of a $2.3 million investment in Downtown Springfield. The plaza links the Abraham Lincoln Home Historic Site to the Illinois Governor’s Mansion and state Capitol along the Jackson Street corridor. R.D. Lawrence transformed a former parking lot into a lighted, tree-lined pedestrian walkway connecting Fifth and Sixth streets.

R.D. Lawrence Construction Company Constructing Addition to House New “Open M.R.I.” at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville

SPRINGFIELD, IL — R.D. Lawrence Construction Company, Ltd., has been selected to provide Design/Build construction services for a 2,000 sq. foot addition to house a new “Open M.R.I.” at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

The project start date is June 7 and work is scheduled to be completed in November 2005.

“R.D. Lawrence is pleased to provide the Design/Build construction services that will house the new ‘open M.R.I.’ at the hospital,” said John Goetz, President of R.D. Lawrence Construction Company.

The cost of the project is $660,000 including a construction budget of $590,000.

The project architect is BLDD of Decatur and engineering work for the project is performed by KJWW of Rock Island.
